The HP High Court today directed the state government to inform the court as to whether apart from the doctors, pharmacists and class-IV, some other staff have been deployed in any of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the state.

The court passed this order on a Public Interest Litigation highlighting the shortage of medical staff in the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centre (CHC) of the state.

It was contended in the petition that that there is acute shortage of doctors and medical staff in the PHCs and the steps taken by the state are not enough. It was further contended that as per the Indian Public Health Standards Guidelines (IPHS) for Primary Health Centres, 2006, there is a shortage of staff and lack of amenities in the PHCs of the state.
