Indira split Pakistan, we can’t be on same page with it: Congress
Reacting to the attacks by the BJP over the statement of Pakistan Defence Minister Khwaja Asif that his country was on the same page with NC and Congress over the issue of Article 370, Deputy Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and AICC senior observer for J&K polls Mukesh Agnihotri said that Pakistan can never be on the same page with Congress as it was split into two parts by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

“How can Pakistan be on the same page with our party as it was the then prime minister Indira Gandhi of the Congress, who was instrumental in splitting the country into two and creating Bangladesh in 1971,” said Agnihotri. He attacked the BJP and without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it is saffron party’s leaders who go to Pakistan unannounced. Modi had gone to Lahore in 2015 in a surprise visit and met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
“The division of their country made such an impact on the psyche of Pakistanis that they are rattled on hearing the name of Gandhis,” said Agnihotri.
The AICC observer was on a visit to Jammu to assess the situation and also to meet senior J&K leaders of the party. Congress recently entrusted Agnihotri and former chief minister of Punjab Charanjit Channi with the responsibility of senior observers for J&K Assembly polls.
In a press briefing, Agnihotri also replied to the accusation of the BJP that “terrorism will rise if NC-Congress alliance comes to power”.
“It is a matter of fact that Jammu region that was earlier peaceful is witnessing terror attacks frequently. It was the Congress government that had eliminated terrorism from Jammu division but under the BJP rule terror attacks have started that also resulted in deaths of more than 45 security forces personnel in over a year,” Agnihotri said.
“BJP is running a proxy government in J&K through the Lieutenant Governor and people are fed up of the corruption and paper leaks that have taken place during last five years,” said Agnihotri.
