‘Will overcome dark time’: Manipur CM digs in heels
Hours after Meitei outfits rejected the NDA resolution against Kuki militants who abducted and killed six of a family and demanded decisive action, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the “barbaric killings” saying “together we will overcome this dark time and work towards a more peaceful future”.
In his first video statement after the latest cycle of violence erupted, Biren thanked the CRPF and the BJP central leadership “for working to bring peace to the state”.
“Today, I stand here with profound sadness and anger to condemn the horrific killing of three innocent women and three children by Kuki terrorists after being taken hostage at Jiribam. Such barbaric acts have no place in a civilised society. Let me assure you that the hunt for these terrorists is currently underway and they will be brought to justice very soon. We will not rest unless they are held accountable for their inhuman actions,” the CM said.
Biren thanked the central leaders for relentless efforts to bring peace to the state. “We will continue to take every necessary step to ensure the safety of the people. Irrespective of which community we belong to, let us condemn the barbaric violence against three women and three children in strongest terms. Such acts can never be justified. Together we will overcome this dark time and work towards a more peaceful future,” said Biren as Meitei organisations too questioned his leadership and ability to restore peace.
