Gurugram, January 18
Taking a cue from Uttar Pradesh, the Gurugram cyber police are on their toes as cyber fraudsters are reportedly cheating people in the name of arranging VIP passes for the “pran pratishtha” programme to be held in Ayodhya on January 22 and offering free mobile recharge and online prasad.
Cyber thugs are also trying to dupe people by sending online links promising hotel bookings in Ayodhya. The Gurugram cyber police issued an advisory on Thursday asking people to remain alert. DCP (Cyber) Siddhant Jain said there had been several cases in various parts of the country, mostly in Uttar Pradesh, in which cyber thugs sent a link of free mobile recharge in the name of Lord Ram. People clicked on it and lost their deposits.
The Gurugram police have asked people not to click on such links or respond to messages and phone numbers. They said there were no arrangements for VIP passes in Ayodhya.
A senior officer said the cyber police had started monitoring social media platforms and would crack down on fraudsters by checking their IP addresses so that innocent people did not become victims of fraud.
