‘Unparliamentary’ language used by ministers in Lok Sabha, says Gaurav Gogoi
New Delhi, July 27
Citing three instances of alleged misconduct by ministers in the Lok Sabha, Congress Deputy Leader in the House Gaurav Gogoi today urged the Speaker Om Birla to take prompt action against those “making deplorable statements”.
In a letter to the Speaker, Gogoi said on July 26, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alias Lallan Singh, used threatening language against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is not a member of the House.
The Congress MP alleged that earlier on Thursday, MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu used ‘unparliamentary’ language against Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson and Rajya Sabha member Sonia Gandhi.
Gogoi alleged that in yet another incident on Thursday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey used outright communal language during his intervention.
Gogoi said despite being present in the House during these incidents, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju did not do anything to restrain his colleagues.
Asserting that ensuring the smooth functioning of the House is a collective responsibility, Gogoi said it was important that the government takes a pro-active and collaborative approach.
“It is unfortunate that this government has consistently overlooked procedures, conventions and decorum of the Parliament, leaving no room for the Opposition’s voice,” Gogoi said in a letter to the Speaker.
