Former Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal had to repeat her oath as Rajya Sabha member on Wednesday morning after she diverted from the text of the pledge.

Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar interrupted Maliwal when she ended her first oath with ‘Inquilab Zindabad’.

“Both at home and abroad, there have been instances of diversions from the oath which had to be corrected later on. I will call Swati Maliwal again,” said Dhankhar as Maliwal waited. She then took the microphone again and repeated her oath, this time in the correct format.

Maliwal took the oath in Hindi. Earlier, she arrived in the new Parliament house complex after offering prayers at the local Hanuman Temple here.

RS Chairman Dhankhar, while greeting Sandhu, said, “You have created history. You are the first person to have taken oath in the new Parliament building.”

ND Gupta was the third Rajya Sabha MP to take oath today after being renominated by AAP. Maliwal earlier posted on X after praying at the Hanuman Temple, “Bowed down, prayed and sought blessings of Bajrang Bali at Hanuman Temple, CP, before taking oath in Rajya Sabha today. Jai Shri Ram. Jai Bajrang Bali,” she said.
