A senior RJD leader in Bihar was shot at by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Munger on Thursday morning.

Police said assailants fired three shots at Pankaj Yadav, party’s state unit general secretary, when he was out on a walk near Safiasarai police station.

He was admitted to a local hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. “The bullet hit him close to his heart on the left side near the 4th and 5th rib. One bullet has been retrieved. The report has come in, and everything is normal,” stated Dr Pankaj Tripathi of the Munger National hospital.

According to former Munger MP, Vijay Kumar, the RJD leader was chased for a kilometre before being shot at from a close range.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar, Rajesh Kumar said the miscreants fled after firing at the leader.

“As soon as the information was received, police from Safiasarai, Qasim Bazar and Kotwali reached there. Investigations are underway. An FIR has also been registered based on the statement given by Yadav’s family,” he added.
