Region in Parliament: No domestic violence case filed in Punjab, Chandigarh in 3 yrs
Punjab and Chandigarh recorded zero cases of violence against women under the Protection of Women against Domestic Violence Act, 2005, in 2020, 2021 and 2022, said MoS for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur in reply to a question by Satnam Singh Sandhu in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. As per the data of the National Crime Records Bureau, Haryana registered three cases in 2021 and one in 2022; HP registered two cases in 2020, one in 2021 and two in 2022.
65 panchayats picked for Sansad Adarsh scheme
As many as 65 panchatays of Punjab have been selected for the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, under which each MP adopts a panchayat and guides its holistic progress, said MoS for Agriculture SP Singh Baghel in reply to a question by Sant Balbir Singh. A total of 3,361 panchayats have been selected across India, of which 91 are in Haryana and 45 in HP.
No case of rice smuggling or undue rejection
No incidents of rice smuggling were reported in Punjab, said MoS for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya. She added, “No issue regarding undue rejection of rice on ground of quality has been reported.”
47 Punjab villages to get 4G mobile services
As many as 47 villages of Punjab have been identified to be covered by 4G mobile services, said MoS for Communication and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar in reply to a question by MP Sukhjinder Randhawa. Besides, the 4G services have already been started in 36 villages.
Deaths in train mishaps
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that 29 consequential train accidents occurred in 2024-25 due to derailments, collisions, fires and level-crossing errors, resulting in 17 deaths and 81 injuries. He highlighted a significant decline in overall consequential train accidents, from 135 in 2014-15 to 40 in 2023.
Cancer cases rising
The estimated incidence of cancer in India has steadily increased, from 14,26,447 cases in 2021 to 14,61,427 in 2022 and 14,96,972 in 2023, according to Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar. The ICMR attributes the rise to factors such as tobacco and alcohol consumption, poor physical activity, unhealthy diets and the intake of high salt, sugar and saturated fats.
BSNL reports profit
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced in the Lok Sabha that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been generating operating profits since 2020-21, aided by government revival packages and revised business strategies.
