Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Wednesday afternoon without transacting any business amid uproar by treasury and opposition benches over the no-trust notice against Vice-President and House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, and the George Soros issue.

As soon as the sitting of the House commenced and Dhankhar started reading out the adjournment notices, after the customary laying of papers, members of the treasury benches and the Opposition traded charges against each other.

While the members of the treasury benches accused the Congress of having links with billionaire investor George Soros, the Opposition members questioned Dhankhar's right to chair in view of the no-trust motion moved against him.

When Congress party chief whip Jairam Ramesh told Dhankhar that the Opposition had moved a notice for his removal, the Rajya Sabha chairman said he was aware of the development.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said since independence, a son of a farmer has become the Vice-President for the first time. The Congress has brought a no-trust motion against him to divert attention from the issue of Sonia Gandhi's link with Soros, he said.

The Opposition members retorted by shouting ‘Adani, Adani’. TMC and other Opposition members also joined the protest saying Dhankhar should not continue as the presiding officer of the House. Dhankhar then adjourned the House till 12 noon.

Soon after the Rajya Sabha reassembled, Leader of the House J P Nadda accused the Congress of standing with billionaire investor George Soros in seeking to destabilise the country, and demanded a discussion.

He also condemned the Congress for the opposition's no-trust notice against Dhankhar. He said it was an attempt by the opposition party to divert attention from the issue of “ties between the top Congress leadership and Soros”.

The members of the treasury benches were on their feet soon after the House met and Deputy Chairman allowed the leader of the house to speak.

The Rajya Sabha has witnessed repeated adjournments for the past three days over the George Soros issue.
