Priyanka represents values India needs today: Rahul Gandhi
Campaigning in Kerala’s Wayanad for his sister and Congress’ candidate for Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, Priyanka Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that his sister represents political values India needs today. He also said that safeguarding and upholding the Constitution was India’s primary struggle.
Rahul said, “The main fight in the country today that is taking place today is the fight for the Constitution of our country. The protection that we get, the greatness of our country, all emerged from the Constitution.”
He said that the Constitution was written with humility and not anger or hatred.
“The Constitution was not written with anger or with hatred. It was written by the people who fought the British, the people who had suffered, who spent years and years and years in jail. And they wrote the Constitution with humility, with love and with affection,” he said.
Recalling a discussion he had with Priyanka after she met former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin in Tamil Nadu’s prison, Rahul said, “She is the person who went and hugged the girl (Nalini) who was implicated in my father’s assassination. After Priyanka met Nalini, she went emotional and then she said to me that I’m feeling bad for her.”
“And to me, this is the type of politics that needs to be done in India. Not the politics of hatred, but politics of love and affection,” he added.
Rahul said that he was lucky to have Priyanka as her sister and the people of Wayanad would also be lucky to have her as a sister.
“Now, you are also lucky to have her as a sister...She is going to be like your sister, like your mother, like your daughter. So I am confident that you now have the best possible MP that you could get,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Priyanka slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and said it functions only for the welfare of a few “business friends”.
“Modi ji’s government works only for his big businessmen friends. His objective is not to give you a better life; it is not to find new jobs for your young ones who are educated; it is not to provide better health or education,” she alleged.
Priyanka alleged that the agenda of Prime Minister Modi is to be in power “by any means”.
“He doesn’t focus on employment, health, education and the well-being of the people. The Modi government divides people, spreads anger and hatred, takes away rights of people, oppresses democratic institutions and takes away all airports, ports and gives them to his businessmen friends. They attacked Rahul Gandhi for his fight for people’s rights,” Priyanka said.
She said Rahul was able to walk 4,000 km under Bharat Jodo Yatra because of the love, courage and support of the people of Wayanad.
Priyanka said that a lot of opportunities could be created for the locals of Mananthavady, a town in Wayanad.
