Priyanka meets Shah, seeks aid for Wayanad landslide victims
The newly elected Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Wednesday met Home Minister Amit Shah to seek “immediate relief” for the people of her constituency, who were impacted by the landslide on July 30.
“As part of a delegation of Congress MPs from Kerala, I met Home Minister Amit Shah today. We carried a petition for immediate relief to be provided to the people of Wayanad who are still struggling to overcome the devastating tragedy that occurred four months ago,” she said in a post on X.
“We explained to him that due to the extreme nature of the tragedy, those affected by it have lost their livelihoods, their homes, schools, friends, and in many cases their entire families. Their entire support system has crumbled,” she added.
The Congress leader asserted that under the circumstances, Wayanad landslide victims were looking with great hope towards the Centre to help them rebuild their shattered lives.
Earlier while speaking to reporters outside the Parliament after meeting Shah, she expressed disappointment over the fact that not much had happened in terms of relief for people, despite the PM’s visit to Wayanad soon after the tragic incident.
“We have also appealed that politics be kept aside and people be helped on humanitarian grounds,” the Congress leader said.
“We also mentioned that PM Modi visited and met victims and when I met those victims, they had hope that PM would help them, but they have not received any help, which is unfortunate,” she added.
