PM Modi meets top global semiconductor executives
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met top minds of the semiconductor industry in the world and called for democratisation of technology for human welfare.
Chairing Semiconductor Executives’ Roundtable at his residence, the Prime Minister said semiconductor is the basis of the Digital Age and the day is not far when the semiconductor industry will be the bedrock for even our basic necessities.
The meeting was attended by CEOs, heads and representatives of top organisations, including SEMI, Micron, NXP, PSMC, IMEC, Renesas, TEPL, Tokyo Electron Ltd, Tower, Synopsys, Cadence, Rapidus, Jacobs, JSR, Infineon, Advantest, Teradyne, Applied Materials, Lam Research, Merck, CG Power and Kaynes Technology.
Also present were professors from Stanford University, University of California, San Diego, and IIT Bhubaneswar.
In his conversation, the Prime Minister said democracy and technology together could ensure the welfare of humanity and India was moving ahead on this path recognising its global responsibility in the semiconductor sector.
He spoke of the pillars of development which include developing social, digital and physical infrastructure, boosting inclusive development, reducing compliance burden and attracting investment in manufacturing and innovations.
The PM said India has the capability to become a trusted partner in a diversified semiconductor supply chain.
The meeting came on the eve of Semicon India conference on Wednesday.

Ajit Manocha, CEO, SEMI, said the PM’s leadership is exceptional, has no parallel and has inspired not just India but the entire world.
Kurt Sievers, CEO, NXP, said he is yet to meet a political leader with such a deep expertise in the semiconductor industry like PM Modi.
Bob Pragada, CEO, Jacobs, said what PM Modi is doing to elevate India on the global scale is not only what India needs but what the world needs.
Luc Van Den Hove, CEO, IMEC, said he is very impressed with the leadership shown by PM Modi which shows a very strong commitment and dedication to make India a powerhouse in the area of semiconductor technology.
