Parl session from Nov 25, eyes on one poll, Waqf Bills
The winter session of the Parliament is set to commence from November 25 and will conclude on December 20, Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Tuesday.
The session will be convening just two days after the declaration of results of Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand on November 23. The election outcomes are likely to decide the momentum of the session, where the focus will be on the One Nation One Election (ONOE) Bill.
The Cabinet recently approved the recommendations of the Ram Nath Kovind-led committee on ONOE. The report of the joint Parliamentary panel on the Waqf Amendment Bill is also expected to be tabled in the first week of the session. However, Opposition members have urged Speaker Om Birla to postpone the deadline of the submission of the panel’s report.
“The President, on the recommendation of the Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Winter Session-2024 from November 25 to December 20 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business).”
“An event would be organised in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on November 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of Constitution,” Rijiju added in his post on X.
The government may also apprise the Parliament on the disengagement exercise along the India-China border.
