Mumbai police arrest man for murder after chopped body parts found at Gorai beach
The Mumbai police have arrested Mohammad Sattar, a 30-year-old man, for allegedly murdering his friend and disposing of his dismembered body parts at Gorai beach. The remains were discovered on Sunday, prompting a swift investigation by the police.
The gruesome discovery came after a passerby reported a foul odor near the beach. Police soon arrived at the scene and found large plastic bags concealed in the bushes. Upon opening one of the bags, they discovered a 20-litre paint bucket containing two severed hands and a head, all in an advanced state of decomposition. Additional body parts were found in nearby buckets.
According to the police, the victim, aged between 20 and 35, had been in a relationship with Sattar’s sister, which the accused vehemently opposed. “The accused had warned the victim to stop seeing his sister, but the victim ignored his warnings and continued the relationship,” said a police official.
Following a thorough investigation, police identified the victim through tattoos and his clothing. They also learned that both the victim and the accused were originally from Bihar. The victim had been working as a laborer in Pune, and he and Sattar knew each other personally.
Sattar, angered by the ongoing relationship, reportedly lured the victim to his home in Bhayandar, a suburb in Thane district, on the night of October 31. After the two consumed alcohol, Sattar allegedly slit the victim’s throat, killing him. To conceal the crime, he dismembered the body into seven pieces, stuffed them into paint buckets, and dumped them near the beach.
Police arrested Sattar after receiving a tip-off and charged him with murder under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing.
