Modi represents 140 crore Indians abroad: Anurag Thakur
BJP MP Anurag Thakur criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments in the US, shortly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country. Thakur emphasised that Modi represents all 140 crore Indians when he goes abroad, and urged the Congress party to recognise this.
Speaking to a news agency in Jammu on Saturday, Thakur said, “It seems the Congress ecosystem has failed to understand that during his visit to the US, PM Modi is representing India as the Prime Minister of 140 crore Indians. If Congress continues to oppose Modi in this way, the country will never accept them.”
Thakur’s remarks come in the wake of protest posters targeting Modi, with slogans such as “Modi, you’re not welcome in New York” being circulated by an organisation, Coalition for Reclaiming Democracy in India. The group has called for people to gather at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York on September 22 to protest Modi’s visit.
Thakur also drew attention to a recent statement by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who sparked controversy by saying that the Pakistan government and the Congress-National Conference alliance in Jammu & Kashmir were on the same page regarding the restoration of Article 370.
