Man attacks Kejri with liquid during padyatra, overpowered
A man allegedly threw a liquid on AAP national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a ‘padyatra’ in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash area on Saturday.
The man was allegedly overpowered by Kejriwal’s security staff and a sub-inspector of the Delhi Police. The authorities later detained the accused, who was identified as Ashok Jha, a bus marshal serving at the Khanpur depot. Kejriwal had begun his march from Choupal in Savitri Nagar and concluded at Meghna Motors in Savitri Nagar.
“Arvind Kejriwal was shaking hands with his followers, when suddenly, one person, namely Ashok Jha, attempted to throw water on him. But he was immediately caught as the police staff was in close proximity,” DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said.
The police said the police had deployed its personnel both in plain clothes and uniform, besides police protection alongside the ropes.
Kejriwal in a post on X had announced that he would be visiting the bereaved family of the 64-year-old who was brutally murdered in Panchsheel Park earlier this week. However, a police official pointed out that AAP had not taken prior permission for organising the padyatra.
Meanwhile, the AAP has criticised the BJP-led Centre over the deteriorating law and order in the Capital. “If a former CM is not safe in Delhi, then where will the common man go?
Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, who was accompanying Kejriwal at the time, claimed on X that the man who attacked Kejriwal was directly linked to the BJP. He also posted a ‘Facebook profile photo’ of the accused.
