Mahayuti renamed Aurangabad, fulfilled Balasaheb’s wish: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the ruling Mahayuti government in Maharashtra had fulfilled the dream of late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray of renaming Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Addressing a gathering in Sambhajinagar, Modi invoked the late Maratha leader to say that while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) had betrayed Balasaheb, “Mahayuti had honoured his memory”.
“The Mahayuti government renamed Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and fulfilled Balasaheb Thackeray’s wish. Maharashtra knows this demand was raised by Balasaheb. The Congress went to the court to demand that this decision be reversed,” said Modi.
He said the Maha Vikas Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray (son of Balasaheb Thackeray) was in power for more than two years but could not muster the courage to rename Aurangabad. “Some people see their protector in the killer of Sambhaji Maharaj. Are these people not pitted against Maharashtra and Maratha pride? Will Maharashtra ever condone this? Will Maharashtra ever accept these people?” Modi asked.
The PM again attacked the Congress, accusing it of harbouring an anti-reservation mindset and seeking to divide people to garner votes.
“The Congress had called reservations against national interest and anti-merit. This mentality of the Congress remains the same even today. That is the reason they are unable to stomach the fact that India got a Prime Minister from the OBC community 10 years ago,” the PM said.
