Madras Regiment named best Republic Day marching outfit
New Delhi, February 5
Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande today presented awards to Army units declared best marching contingents during the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path.
The Army had appointed a panel to select the best contingents among its own participants. The jury was different from the one set up by the Ministry of Defence to adjudicate the best contingents among all participants.
A total of eight marching contingents and 22 military and pipe bands from the Army had participated in the parade.
The Madras Regiment was adjudged the best marching contingent while the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre was declared runner-up. In the military band category, Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre and Army Air Defence Centre were adjudged the winner and runner-up, respectively.
In the pipe band category, 14 Gorkha Training Centre and Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre received the winner and runner-up honour.
The Army Chief also presented cash prizes to a contingent of the Sikh Regiment for being adjudged the best marching contingent of the entire parade by the MoD panel. The Rajputana Rifles contingent was awarded for being the “popular choice” unit.
