The Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill, 2024, which will replace the 90-year old Aircraft Act of 1934, and will set up an efficient grievance redressal mechanism to address the concerns of passengers, especially those related to rising airfares.
Speaking on the Bill, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said it would ensure timely response to grievances of passengers. The Aircraft Act, 1934, has been amended 21 times and Naidu said it had become very ambiguous and redundant with the passage of time.
He added while replying to the discussion on the Bill that a new structure was needed for the entire civil aviation architecture of the country and through the new Bill, the government had structured and defined the powers of DGCA and other bodies of the ministry.
