Hours after cross-complaints of "assault and attempted murder" were given by the members of the BJP and Congress following a scuffle among them in Parliament on Thursday, the Delhi Police, taking cognisance of the ruling party's complaint, registered an FIR in the matter.

While the BJP alleged that their two MPs — Pratap Rao Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput -— were injured, the Congress said their party president Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed to the ground by BJP leaders, causing “bodily injuries” to him.

Later, a BJP delegation led by MPs Anurag Thakur, Bansuri Swaraj and Hemang Joshi reached the Parliament Street police station where they filed a complaint against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and accused him of “attempted murder” of BJP MPs.

The BJP in its complaint, which was lodged by Vadodra MP Hemang Joshi, stated that MPs belonging to the NDA were protesting at 'Makar Dwaar' entrance of Parliament.

"Rahul arrived around 10.40 am. Despite a request by Parliament security to take the designated entry path, Rahul Gandhi — with a malicious intent to disrupt the protest and physically harm NDA MPs — ignored the instructions and forcefully barged towards the peaceful demonstrators," Joshi stated in his complaint.

"Mukesh Rajput sustained severe injury to the back of his head and Pratap Rao Sarangi suffered a forehead injury, both injuries requiring immediate medical attention," the complaint read.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders said their protest was peaceful till the time certain "unscrupulous" BJP MPs stood in the way of their protest with the “sole intention of causing ruckus”. Congress leaders, in their complaint, alleged that BJP MPs exerted force on Congress president Kharge by pushing him to the ground which caused injuries to Kharge, Neeraj Dangi and other leaders. But no legal action was taken by the Delhi Police on their complaint till the time of filing of this report.
