The scheduled statement by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the recent developments in India-China relations was disrupted on Monday amid a continuing parliamentary logjam on account of a range of Opposition demands.

The Congress-led Opposition continued to storm proceedings in both Houses today, leading to quick adjournments of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha until Tuesday.

Top government sources said Jaishankar’s statement was scheduled to be made in Lok Sabha at 12 noon and Rajya Sabha at 2 pm but was stalled on account of House pandemonium.

The Congress has been demanding adjournment of all House proceedings to take up the issue of US court’s indictment of industrialist Gautam Adani for alleged bribery to secure favourable solar power contracts.

Jaishankar had met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Russia's Kazan recently to discuss the disengagement process along the LAC where both sides had gathered troops and built infrastructure after the clashes.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral in Kazan and directed the respective officials in their countries to take the disengagement process forward. Following this the armies of the two countries began disengagement starting with friction points in Depsang and Demchok.
