India, Singapore agree to enhance defence ties
India and Singapore have agreed to strengthen their military cooperation, particularly in emerging areas such as automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. This decision came during the sixth India-Singapore Defence Ministerial Dialogue, co-chaired by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Singapore’s Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen in New Delhi.
The dialogue, which focused on future defence equipment production, recognised that both nations are well-suited to begin co-development and co-production of defence technologies. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) emphasised that industry cooperation will be enhanced, with both countries exploring collaboration in niche domains like AI and automation.
Both ministers agreed to advance bilateral defence cooperation and explore new avenues for partnership. A key outcome was the extension of the bilateral agreement on ‘joint military training’ for the Indian and Singaporean Armies for another five years. They also agreed to deepen cooperation in cybersecurity, reflecting the increasing importance of securing digital infrastructure in military operations.
