One in three faculty posts vacant in AIIMS

MoS for Health Prataprao Jadhav has admitted in Lok Sabha that there is an acute shortage of both teaching and non-teaching staff at AIIMS, New Delhi. He said the vacancy rate for faculty positions is 34%, and non-faculty posts is 15.6%. Out of 1,235 sanctioned teaching posts, only 810 have been filled, while non-faculty staff has been recruited on 12,101 of 14,343 non-faculty posts.

447 vacancies notified across passport offices

The government has reported 447 vacancies across passport offices in the country to the Staff Selection Commission for filling vacant posts in the direct recruitment category of the grades of office assistant, junior passport assistant, assistant superintendent, stenographer and junior translation officer, said MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh.

Doctor-population ratio better than WHO norm

The doctor-population ratio in the country is 1:811, which is better than the WHO standard of 1:1,000, Health Minister JP Nadda told the Lok Sabha on Friday. As many as 13,86,145 allopathic doctors are registered with the national and state medical councils. Besides, there are around 6.14 lakh AYUSH doctors.

Work on undersea bullet train tunnel project starts

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that work on an undersea tunnel for the ongoing Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project, commonly called the bullet train project, has begun.
