Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the government of avoiding a discussion on the Adani bribery issue by obstructing parliamentary proceedings. Speaking to mediapersons outside Parliament after meeting Speaker Om Birla, Rahul said the Congress will continue to raise the matter while ensuring the House functions despite provocations from the BJP.

Rahul said he had urged the Speaker to review derogatory remarks made against him in the House, referring to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s allegations linking him to George Soros. Birla assured him the matter would be examined.

“The government does not want to run Parliament because it seeks to avoid a discussion on Adani. But we are determined to press for accountability,” Rahul said. He added that while the Congress is prepared to face BJP’s attacks, it will not be provoked and will allow the House to function to facilitate a scheduled discussion on the Constitution in both Houses.

On BJP’s allegations about the Gandhi family’s connections with Soros, Gandhi dismissed them as a diversionary tactic to deflect attention from the Adani issue.

Earlier in the day, members of the INDIA alliance, led by Congress, staged a protest outside Parliament on the Adani matter. However, the TMC, Samajwadi Party and AAP were notably absent.

The protest included a symbolic gesture where Rahul and other Opposition MPs presented roses and the Tricolour to MPs from the ruling coalition and other parties as they entered Parliament.
