A gold-plated crown gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple (Satkhira) in Bangladesh in 2021 has been stolen.

The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has expressed “deep concern” over the development and taken up the matter with the authorities in Dhaka.

The Indian High Commission at Dhaka, in a post on social media platform X, said, “We have seen reports of theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi to Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple (Satkhira) in 2021”.

“We express deep concern and urge the Government of Bangladesh to investigate theft, recover the crown and take action against the perpetrators,” the High Commission said.

Sources said it has been conveyed to Dhaka that Indian side was disturbed by the reported incident of theft of a religious article from a temple in Bangladesh. The temple is one the ‘shaktipeeth’ of the Hindu religion.
