The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the poll schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand later this week, sources aware of the development said.

A delegation from the ECI, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu, recently visited Maharashtra to assess the election preparedness.

During the visit, CEC Rajiv Kumar mentioned that Assembly elections in Maharashtra would be held before November 26, as the state Assembly’s term ends on that date. The ECI had also visited Jharkhand earlier to review election readiness there, though the term of its Assembly extends until January 5, 2025. Despite this, it is possible that Jharkhand’s elections may be held alongside Maharashtra’s in November.
