Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday directed members, particularly Opposition MPs, to avoid staging protests in front of the main gate of the new Parliament House. This came after Congress-led INDIA alliance members protested for the second consecutive day on the Adani bribery issue at the Makar Dwar stairs.

During Zero Hour, Birla informed the House that he had received complaints, especially from women MPs, about protests obstructing entry to Parliament, particularly during the commencement of proceedings.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat later issued an order urging MPs to refrain from crowding outside Parliament’s entrance gates. Meanwhile, INDIA alliance parties resumed protests over the Adani issue on Thursday. Notably, the TMC did not participate in the demonstration, as was also the case on December 3.
