Describing the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, as a civil code applicable to every woman in India irrespective of her religious affiliation or social background, the Supreme Court has said it is intended to ensure effective protection of rights.
“The Act is a piece of civil code which is applicable to every woman in India irrespective of religious affiliation and social background for more effective protection of her rights guaranteed under the Constitution,” it said.
