New Delhi, August 16

The Kolkata cyber police have sent several notices to social media users for allegedly posting offensive information with respect to the August 9 RG Kar rape and murder case.

In a notice, which several protesting resident doctors as well as others have received, the IG Kolkata Cyber police said: “It has been observed that you are using social media for posting offensive, malicious and inciting posts. Cyber Police Kolkata hereby sends you a notice against you under Section 168 BNSS, 2023 for posting such message in the Twitter handle which may result in a cognizable offence. You are directed to delete the above mentioned posts and also refrain from such acts failing which you will be liable for strict penal action against relevant provision of law.”

The protesting doctors today said Kolkata cyber police have sent “these love letters to many agitating people.”

Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA)’s Manish Kangra said according to information, 1,000 such “love letters” have been sent by the Kolkata Police.

“Instead of spending resources and time to shut the netizens, the Kolkata Police should have used half the resources to solve the case,” he said.
