Gurmail Singh (26), who was arrested in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, belonged to Narar village of Kaithal, and was out on bail in a murder case.

Dejected by Gurmail’s involvement in criminal activities, his grandmother Phuli Devi, who lives with Gurmail’s stepbrother (13), sought an exemplary punishment for him. His parents have reportedly passed away.

Phuli Devi said, “When he never cared for us, why should we care for him? He was disowned by us years ago. We have no relation with him. His father has already passed, and his mother is now married to my younger son. I live with my younger grandson. Gurmail was in jail in a murder case. We have no idea when he got bail and how he went to Mumbai. He should be given an exemplary punishment.”

After Gurmail’s involvement in the high-profile murder came to light, the local police swung into action and checked his track record. As per information, in 2019, Gurmail was booked in a murder case in Kaithal. He got bail in 2023. In 2022, a phone was recovered from him in the Kaithal jail following which another case was registered against him. In 2024, a case of assault was also registered against him. His arrest in that case is reportedly pending. During his time in jail, Gurmail was in touch with criminals, sources said.

Rajesh Kalia, Superintendent of Police, Kaithal, confirmed that three FIRs, including one in a murder case, had been lodged against Gurmail. “We are yet to get any communication from the Maharashtra police for any information about him,” he said.
