Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday expressed “deep pain” over the disruptions in Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament, saying that at a time when the nation is entering into the fourth quarter of 100 years of adopting the Constitution, no work could be done in the upper house for a single moment.

Addressing the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, the Vice President said political parties needed to understand that the interest of the nation came first.

“I expressed my deep pain on the fact that on the occasion of entering the fourth quarter of adopting the Constitution, Rajya Sabha could not work for a single moment. How can we live as a democracy and how can we go against the spirit of the Constitution?” Dhankhar, who is the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, was referring to the week-long disruptions by the Congress-led Opposition inside Parliament. Owing to protests by the opposition, business in both Houses was washed out in the first week of the winter session.
