Darul Uloom members share views on Waqf Bill
The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill on Wednesday recorded views of Darul Uloom of Deoband on the controversial legislation.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who heads the panel, told mediapersons after the meeting that the seminary’s representatives were called as it was a 150-year-old institution.
The Vice-Chancellor of Darul Uloom along with other senior members of the institution, presented their views on the Bill before the panel.
“Darul Uloom Deoband came to today’s meeting. We called them because it is about 150 years old... We have taken their views, their suggestions regarding the proposed Bill. They have also given it in writing. The JPC will look into it,” Pal told mediapersons after the meeting.
Several MPs though were missing from the meeting, as it took place when the Lok Sabha proceedings were going on and the discussion was taking place on the Disaster Management Bill. The panel has been given an extension till the end of the 2025 Budget session to present its report on the Bill.
