BJP’s negative attitude to increasing instances of crime against women worrying: Rahul
Citing the incident gangrape of a woman and assault on two Army officers in Madhya Pradesh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the negative attitude of the BJP government to the day-by-day increasing crimes against women is extremely worrying.
Two young Army officers were brutally assaulted and their friend was gang-raped at gunpoint in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, late on Tuesday evening.
The two officers, who are training at the Mhow Army College near Indore, had gone with two women friends to a spot near the firing range at Chhoti Jam in the afternoon.
In message posted on his X handle, Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said the incident shamed the entire society.
Alleging that law and order was non-existent in BJP-ruled states, Gandhi said the audacity of the criminals was a result of the total failure of the administration and the unsafe environment prevailing in the country.
The environment is detrimental to the freedom and aspirations of the daughters of India, Gandhi wrote.
The Congress leader said both the society and government should feel ashamed and give a serious thought to how long one could go on turning a blind eye to the responsibility of protecting half the population of the country.
