In a scathing attack on the saffron party, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, during her campaign in Wayanad, accused the BJP of politicising landslides that occurred in Kerala in July, claiming over 200 lives.

Speaking at a corner meeting in Kenichira, from where she is contesting the Lok Sabha bypoll, Vadra emphasised the need for unity and genuine political action.

“Even a disaster that caused immense pain to people was politicised by the BJP...Today, we stand at a place where you must think about your country, your own needs and the kind of politics you want in our nation,” she said, stressing the importance of addressing the community’s needs.

Vadra also criticised the Centre for its allegedly inadequate response to the disaster, promising to advocate for the affected families, if elected to the Parliament.

“If you give me the chance to represent you in the Parliament, I will show you that I can work harder than anyone else for you. I will voice your issues, fight for you and put pressure on both the Centre and state government,” she pledged.

The Congress leader further said the BJP relies on hatred, anger, divisiveness and destruction, to distract citizens from pressing issues such as rising prices and unemployment.

She said Wayanad had a rich history and culture of unity, whether it is Muslims, Christians or Hindus.

Addressing local issues, Vadra highlighted the problems of man-animal conflict affecting dairy farmers and the need for better infrastructure and compensation for land damages.
