BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has lodged a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking disciplinary action against Congress members for their alleged misbehaviour during the proceedings of the Joint Parliamentary Commisssion on Waqf Amendment Bill.
“Have brought to Speaker Shri @ombirlakota’s attention the recent disruptions and unruly behaviour of certain MPs during the JPC meeting of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, on October 14,” Surya said in a post on X.
“Anwar Manippady, a former Karnataka State Minorities Commission Chairman, was called to depose before the committee. While he was speaking about the alleged Rs 2 lakh crore Waqf land encroachment scam in Karnataka involving some Congress leaders, Opposition members threatened the witness and chairperson, disrespected parliamentary decorum and even tore committee papers,” the BJP MP wrote further.
I urge the Speaker to initiate disciplinary action against all those Members who indulged in such unacceptable conduct, Surya added. Congress members had walked out from the above-mentioned meeting of the joint panel, citing unparliamentary behaviour by BJP members and even the panel’s chairman Jagdambika Pal.
They had written to Birla that the documents shown by Manipaddy in the meeting were not provided to the members of the panel and that the subject was not part of the committee’s agenda.
They had even objected to Manipaddy’s utterances against Kharge.
