Amit Shah holds 2nd round of review meeting on Manipur
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a second round of review meeting with the top ministry and intelligence officials here on Monday amid increasing violence and protests in Manipur after the discovery of bodies of six people.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other senior officials of the ministry.
On November 17, Shah had rushed to Delhi after cancelling his rallies in Maharashtra amid spiralling violence in Manipur and held a review meeting with top officials.
CRPF chief Anish Dayal is already in Manipur to monitor the security situation.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday officially took over the charge of probing three cases related to violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district, including an encounter with the CRPF on November 11 in which 10 suspected militants were killed and the alleged murder of a tribal woman on November 7, who was shot, raped and burnt to death by armed militants.
During a protest, a man who was vandalising properties in Manipur’s Jiribam district, was killed, police said on Monday.
Police confirmed that one person was killed in firing but said it was not immediately clear who opened the fire, while eyewitnesses claimed the firing came from the direction of the security forces.
The incident took place late on Sunday night (November 17) when agitators were vandalising properties at Babupara in Jiribam police station area to protest the killing of women and children abducted by militants.
