Amid rise in hoax bomb cases, SSB chief Prasad gets charge of civil aviation bureau

Amid rising cases of hoax calls regarding bombs on airplanes, which have led to disruptions across the Indian airlines’ operations, senior IPS officer and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Amrit Mohan Prasad has been given additional charge of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

Sources said Prasad took charge at the BCAS headquarters on November 1, a day after incumbent Zulfiquar Hasan retired on October 31.

The temporary measure had to be taken as nobody’s candidature had yet been finalised to head the BCAS, which is the key body for combating any kind of security threats to the Indian aviation sector.

While BCAS is responsible for prescribing security measures by laying aviation security standards in accordance with Annexure 17 to the Chicago Convention of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the CISF implements the rules prescribed by BCAS.
