Adjournment rule being weaponised for disruptions: VP
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday adjourned proceedings for the day after disruptions by the Opposition. He pointed out that Rule 267 was being weaponised as a mechanism of disruption.
Opposition MPs started the protest soon after the chairman announced that he had received their 17 notices for suspension of scheduled business and take up issues related to corruption allegations against the Adani Group, violence in UP’s Sambhal, and Manipur.
Speaking in the Upper House, Dhankhar said, “I call upon you for deep reflection. Rule 267 is being weaponised as a mechanism of disruption from our normal working. This cannot be appreciated.”
Dhankhar further said that the loss of time and opportunity by not having question hour had given enormous setback to the people at large.
Meanwhile, Congress’ Jairam Ramesh said, “The big mystery is why the government is not resisting the adjournments. On the contrary, it is facilitating the aggression of INDIA parties.”
