45 MLAs with him, Soren wins trust vote
New Delhi, July 8
The Hemant Soren government won the trust vote on the floor of the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday. Forty-five MLAs belonging to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and the RJD voted for the motion. Nobody voted against the motion as the Opposition walked out and did not take part in voting.
ED moves SC against bail to him by HC
- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has moved the SC challenging the Jharkhand HC’s order granting bail to Hemant Soren in a money laundering case
- The HC had granted him bail on June 28 after which he took oath as CM on July 4
Later, 11 ministers, including Champai Soren, who remained Chief Minister during the period Hemant Soren was incarcerated, took oath in the Hemant Soren-led cabinet. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath to the ministers at a ceremony held in the Raj Bhawan at 4 pm.
Other ministers who took oath were Congress’ Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey Singh, JMM’s Mithilesh Thakur, Deepak Birua, Baidyanath Ram and Hafizul Hasan and RJD’s Satyanand Bhokta.
Hemant Soren’s younger brother Basant Soren and Congress’ Badal Patralekh were, however, dropped from the cabinet. Three new faces, Irfan Ansari (Congress), Deepika Pandey Singh (Congress) and Baidyanath Ram (JMM), have been inducted. Irfan Ansari replaces former minister Alamgir Alam, who is currently in jail.
