2 still missing in Mumbai ferry crash
Two persons are still missing at sea after yesterday’s collision between a Navy speedboat and a passenger ferry off the coast of Mumbai.
Thirteen person, including a naval official, lost their lives in the accident. Till last night, 99 survivors had been rescued.
The Navy said two persons, who were onboard the ferry, are still reported to be missing. Search and rescue operations are in progress by eight Navy vessels and a naval helicopter, augmented by a Coast Guard vessel.
Search and Rescue efforts have continued throughout the night yesterday, the Navy said. A Board of Inquiry has been ordered into the accident to establish the facts of the case.
Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of those who tragically lost their lives in the accident in Mumbai Harbour, and wish for a speedy recovery of the injured.
The Navy had yesterday said the accident occurred when a “Navy craft ( a speedboat) undergoing engine trials lost control and collided with a passenger ferry ‘Neel Kamal’ off Karanja, Mumbai.” The ferry was carrying passengers from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island.
