India-South Africa T20 match halted as flying ants invade Centurion stadium
The third T20 match being played between India and South Africa was suspended after flying ants invaded the stadium at Centurion Park, Centurion.
India scored 219/6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a brilliant century by 22-year-old southpaw Tilak Varma and a blistering fifty by Abhishek Sharma.
As the Proteas started the chase, only one over by Arshdeep Singh was completed and Hardik was to bowl the second over when flying ants invaded the playing arena and the players had no choice but to head for the pavilion.
Flying ants are most likely to appear after 3-5 days of rain, when the weather is warm, humid and windy.
As this report was filed, the match was suspended.
“Flying ants are running amok at the stadium so we will wait for them to disappear before resuming play,” Cricket South Africa wrote on X.
The match is likely to resume soon.
