New Delhi, April 1
China and India will have low key celebrations of their 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations which they had earlier planned to celebrate on a grand scale with 70 events planned by each side.
Currently both sides have only managed to cooperate on designing a joint logo for the celebrations because of the setback suffered, first by China’s preoccupation with the epidemic which later sucked in India as well.
“We have been unable to carry out the various activities that had been planned to celebrate this historic anniversary. Nonetheless, we should continue to work cooperatively in the coming months and, once we and the world are able to control the Covid-19 outbreak, we will celebrate this milestone in a manner duly reflective of its significance and the common aspirations of our two peoples,” noted Jaishankar.
While President Ram Nath Kovind exchanged messages with his counterpart Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged messages with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Separately, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent each other messages.
