MC MADE Payment, work still pending

  • The MC had allotted a tender of Rs 72.02 lakh for the construction of a 400-m stretch in February last year
  • It increased the tender amount from Rs 72 lakh to a whopping Rs 2.5 crore in September 2021
  • The MC has already made the payment to the contractor. However, the construction work is still pending

Sources said the tender amount was increased for the construction of a road in Sector 29 part-2. They said the MC had allotted a tender of Rs 72.02 lakh for the construction of a 400-m stretch in February last year.

Later, a councillor had put up the matter before the General House, which approved the enhancement of the tender. The MC increased the tender amount from Rs 72 lakh to Rs 2.5 crore in September 2021. The construction work is still pending. However, the MC has already made the payment to the contractor.

AAP leader and social activist Rakesh Chugh questioned both the increase in the tender amount and payment to the contractor before the completion of the work.

Chugh, while talking to mediapersons, said the increase in the tender amount could happen only due to the connivance of BJP leaders and MC officials with the contractor.

Chugh demanded an inquiry into the matter. He said the increase in amounts of other tenders issued in the last five years should also be probed. Yashender Singh, MC Commissioner, said the matter was not related to his tenure. He said he had sought the file concerned to look into the matter.
