In crackdown against criminals, Yamunanagar cops arrest 164 since August 16

Ahead of Haryana Assembly poll, 9 POs, 21 bail jumpers, 131 others too land in police net

The Yamunanagar police have arrested 164 persons for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling and illegal liquor and weapons trade since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the Haryana Assembly elections.

Besides, nine proclaimed offenders, 21 bail jumpers and 131 others against whom non-bailable warrants were issued by the court were also arrested till September 20.

Nasib Singh Saini, an official spokesperson, said on the directions of Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia, the district police started a special drive to nail criminals for peaceful conduct of the elections.

He said in a crackdown against drug smugglers during this period, the police arrested 82 accused and registered 51 cases. “As many as 33.9 kg of hashish, 1.47 kg of heroin, 27.439 kg of poppy husk, 28.72 kg of ganja, 15,030 tablets and 3,120 capsules of banned drugs and 45 banned injections worth crores of rupees were seized from their possession,” said Nasib Singh.

After registering 14 criminal cases, the police also arrested 21 persons for smuggling and possessing illegal weapons. As many as 19 illegal weapons, including country-made pistols and eight live cartridges, were recovered from their possession.

“The district police also arrested 61 persons involved in illegal liquor trade and registered 61 cases against them in various police stations of the district,” he added.

He said 3,329 bottles of country liquor, 4.750 lt of illicit country liquor, 71 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and 35,400 bottles of beer were recovered. The police also recovered Rs 15.60 lakh of unaccounted cash.

Punia appealed to the public to give information about persons involved in any kind of illegal business of narcotics, weapons or illegal activities to the nearest police station or dial 112. He said the identity of the information provider would be kept secret.
