In Brief: Teachers’ memo over promotion
Jalandhar: Members of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) handed over a memorandum to the Deputy District Education Officer Rajiv Joshi in protest the transfer and promotion policy by the education department. The memorandum was addressed to the Education Minister, Punjab. The DTF members were seen holding the flags. Kulwinder Singh, president of the front, said the teachers posted in the schools having more strength were shown to be eligible to apply for promotion, which was not right at all. "We condemn this decision and the DTF has opposed this move," he said.
Minor abducted in Phagwara
Phagwara : On a complaint lodged by Manjit Kumar of Nanak Nagri, Phagwara, the police have registered a case against unknown person on the charge of abducting a minor daughter of the complainant. He told the police that his 17-year old daughter was doing English-speaking course in Phagwara. On September 7, she did not return home. Manjit said he informed the police and expressed his apprehension that someone abducted his daughter. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the cops were investigating the matter.
One held, two booked for firing
Nakodar: The police have arrested a villager and booked two on the charge of attempt to murder and firing. The accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh of Meerapur village. Te other two accused have been identified as Rasmeet Singh and his brother Gurveer Singh. Karan Kumar complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on September 24 in the village and the accused Rasmeet fired at him but his brother pushed him to the side and saved him. A case has been registered against the accused and a licensed revolver has been seized from the spot.
Two brothers die in accident
Hoshiarpur: Two brothers died in a road accident that occurred near Bhagala on Wednesday. The police have booked the accused. Mandeep Singh, a resident Budhpur, told the police that his father Gurmeet Lal has a shop in Bhangala. He said his father and uncle Ravidas were going to the shop on a bike. When they reached near a school on the highway, a car hit his father's bike and both died on the spot. A case has been registered against the accused car driver Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Kaulpur, Dasuya.
2 dengue cases reported
Jalandhar: Dengue cases have seen a dramatic hike in September. With the two new cases being reported today, the total number of cases in September has reached 22. The Jalandhar district had merely 11 dengue cases until August 1. Majority of the Dengue cases have been reported in August and September.
