Phagwara: Though the police have booked JCT directors Samir Thapar and Mukulika Sinha under the EPF Act, on the charges of non-depositing of the mill share of provident funds and for firing in the air from his mill residence to disburse the mob during a noisy protest of JCT workers on the night of October 27, JCT workers want payments of their pending amount, allowances and other arrears soon.
4 booked for assault
Phagwara: The police have booked four villagers for culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy. The accused have been identified as Sukhjindar Singh, his brother Kulwindar Singh, Satwant Singh and Dilbag Singh, all residents of Nangal Ambian village. Another Sukhjindar of the same village complained to the police that his two brothers and other accused attacked him, intending to kill and threatened him. A case has been registered.
3 kin booked for cheating
Phagwara: The police have booked three members of a family on the charges of cheating, and criminal conspiracy. The accused have been identified as Surinder Singh, a resident of Bajwa Kalan village, his wife Gurbaksh Kaur and daughter Gagan Veer Kaur. Dalveer Singh, of Kang Sahib Rai village, complained to Jalandhar (rural) SSP that the accused cheated him and his family of Rs 35.40 lakh. In-laws booked in dowry case
Phagwara: The police have booked three members of a family in the dowry harassment case. The accused have been identified as Manjit Kumar of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, his mother Amarjit Kaur and father Amarik Singh. Manju of Beer Pind village had filed a complaint to the police that her in-laws harassed her demanding more dowry. A case has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
Man held under NDPS Act
Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling intoxicated tablets. As many as 110 intoxicated tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Amit, alias Amari, a resident of Mohalla Gouns, Nakodar. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
Man held for minor rape bid
Phagwara: The police have arrested a Jalandhar villager on the charge of attempting to rape a minor. The accused had been identified as Som Lal, alias Sodhi, resident of Khunn Khunn village. The grandfather of the victim had complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on November 8 morning and attempted to rape his minor granddaughter. A case was registered.
