Phagwara: The police have booked six persons on the charge of assaulting a Nakodar resident. The accused have been identified as Rimpi and Kali of Mohalla Rehman Pura, Nakodar, and their four unidentified accomplices. Raman, a resident of Baji Gar Basti, complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on August 26, attacked and seriously injured him and snatched his gold chain. A case has been registered.

Youth held with intoxicants

Phagwara: The police have arrested a village youth and recovered 1,160 intoxicant tablets from his possession last night. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the arrested accused was identified as Surinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran. The accused was nabbed at a check-point near village Miherru. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.

Cash, gold stolen from house

Phagwara: A house belonging to Lakhbir Singh was reportedly burgled in village Rihana-Jattan near Phagwara last night. The burglars entered the house after breaking the locks and took away cash and gold ornaments. The police have registered a case.

204 women get in job letters

Hoshiarpur: The District Bureau of Employment and Enterprise/Model Career Center, Hoshiarpur, organised a special placement camp for women at Chabbewal. More than 1,500 candidates participated in it for 400 posts in 15 companies, in which 204 candidates got the job on the spot and 412 candidates were shortlisted for the final round of interviews.

PO arrested

Phagwara: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) absconding since last year. The accused Jaspal Singh of Shahkot is wanted in a case of selling illicit countrymade liquor. A case was registered against the accused in 2022 and was declared a PO in 2023.
