Chennai, September 2024 – Marking a significant milestone in environmental stewardship, Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School (MCCHSS) introduced a state-of-the-art Waste Water Recycling System, sponsored by Hubert Enviro Care Systems Pvt. Ltd. (HECS). The unveiling took place during a special event commemorating World Ozone Day.

The system was officially inaugurated by Thiru. Siva V Meyyanathan, Honorable Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Government of Tamil Nadu, who highlighted the importance of water conservation in today’s scenario. The event was also attended by Dr. J.R. Moses, CEO of HECS, Dr. G.J. Manoharan, Correspondent of MCC School, and Mr. G. Jebadoss Thinakaran, Principal of MCC School.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Meyyanathan appreciated the partnership between HECS and MCC School, stating that projects like this reflect the need for implementing sustainable solutions in water management. He emphasized how essential such initiatives are in ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources and commended the school for taking a proactive role in fostering environmental awareness among its students. The Minister also highlighted the various efforts made by the Tamil Nadu Government towards sustainability.

Dr. J.R. Moses shed light on the benefits of the new waste water recycling system, explaining that it would help the school reduce its consumption of fresh water by approximately 25%. The recycled water will be used for non-potable applications, contributing to the school’s overall sustainability efforts. He further elaborated on the system's modern infrastructure, which includes advanced technology to ensure efficient waste water treatment. In addition to the project, Dr. Moses also introduced HECS’s scholarship program aimed at providing educational support to students from economically disadvantaged students from the school.

As part of the celebrations, a series of presentations and videos were showcased, highlighting the school’s ongoing environmental initiatives. The installation of the waste water recycling system is expected to play a key role in educating students about sustainability and encouraging them to adopt eco-friendly practices, both within the school and in their communities.

The inauguration also marked the waste water recycling system officially turned on by the Minister, setting a new standard for water conservation in educational institutions. Minister Meyyanathan expressed his hope that similar projects would soon be adopted by other schools throughout Tamil Nadu, underscoring the critical need for sustainable solutions in the face of growing environmental challenges.
