Illegal abortion centre raided , 2 held
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Health Act in connection with an illegal MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) centre being run at a village in the district. Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested.
The action came after a Health Department team carried out a surprise inspection at a private clinic, Life Care Nursing Home and Maternity Centre,in Bighawali village. CMO Dr Jai Bhagwan Jatain said that a team of three doctors and police which raided the spot found that a woman identified as Pappan, a resident of Gehlab village, was attending a four-month old pregnant woman at the clinic. The patient claimed that she had come to the clinic after pain in her abdomen. Pappan, attending the patient, said she took care of patients in the absence of one Dr Pawan Dagar, the owner of the clinic.
Jatain said while Dagar was not present, the team found the equipment used for MTP and an MTP kit. (Safe-t kit). Over 26 tablets of Mifepristone which is used in MTP were found in the clinic. Another person identified as Naved, resident of Golpuri Nuh Mewat, working as a compounder in the clinic was also present.
As the staff present at the spot could not produce any document or authorisation for carrying out the MTP , the team lodged a complaint with the police for registration of the FIR naming Pappan, Naved and Dr Pawan Dagar as the accused .
