IIT-Delhi, international agency sign memo on clean energy
The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, focusing on energy technology innovation aimed at reducing emissions and driving clean energy transitions.
The MoU, signed at the IEA headquarters in Paris, outlines key areas of collaboration, including policy analysis to promote energy innovation and the exchange of information on energy technology trends, particularly in emerging and developing economies.
Recently, the IEA and IIT-Delhi jointly published a report titled ‘Clean Energy Innovation Policies in Emerging and Developing Economies’, which explores the economic opportunities and the role of policy in expanding the new energy economy in these regions.
Dr Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA, said, “The IEA looks forward to closely collaborating with IIT-Delhi on addressing some of the world’s most pressing energy challenges. The potential for emerging and developing economies in the new energy economy is immense, but realising it requires effective policies, investments and expertise. This MoU will help break down barriers through knowledge sharing, best practices and concrete actions to support countries in deploying clean energy technologies and achieving their climate and energy goals.”
Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT-Delhi, remarked, “We are excited to partner with the IEA in advancing the clean energy transition. This collaboration can enhance our capacity to tackle climate and sustainability challenges while preparing future-ready graduates for society. Together, the IEA and IIT-Delhi can develop strategies to assist emerging and developing economies in navigating the path to net-zero emissions.”
